Regular Season Round 4: Podravac - Zadar 49-74
Date: October 27, 2018
There was no surprise in Virje where 9th ranked Podravac (1-3) was crushed by fourth ranked KK Zadar (3-1) 74-49. It looked good early as Podravac took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then KK Zadar had a 21-12 second period charge getting the lead and Podravac was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 49-74. KK Zadar dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Podravac's 30. KK Zadar forced 19 Podravac turnovers and outrebounded them 47-24 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by power forward Ana Vrsaljko (188-84) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds and forward Ana Mandic (180-1) supported her with 14 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). KK Zadar's coach Marija Mazija felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 25 points by guard Valentina Simunic (175-98) did not help to save the game for Podravac. Petra Mihalic (-99) added 9 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. KK Zadar moved-up to second place, which they share with 4 other teams. Podravac at the other side dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. KK Zadar's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Plamen Pozega (#12) at home and are hoping to win another game. Podravac will play against Ragusa (#10) in Dubrovnik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
