There was a minor upset when higher ranked Genero (2-2) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked Alcobendas (2-2) 74-63 on Saturday. Alcobendas forced 22 Genero turnovers. British forward Jamila Thompson (193-92, college: Drexel) fired a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. American center Erika Livermore (185-93, college: Fair Dickinson) chipped in 15 points. Alcobendas' coach Alex Pajares used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Greek-Nigerian forward Jessica Ogunnorin (185-92, college: VCU) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and center Yaiza Garcia (190-88) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Genero players scored in double figures. Alcobendas moved-up to fifth place in Group B, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated Genero. Alcobendas will face Real Canoe (#8) in Madrid in the next round. Genero will play on the road against Almeria and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
