There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Savonese (0-5) was edged at home by tenth ranked Cagliari CUS (2-3) 59-57 on Saturday. Cagliari CUS forced 26 Savonese turnovers. Strangely Savonese outrebounded Cagliari CUS 40-23 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international forward Silvia Favento (185-85) stepped up and scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Polish Aneta Kotnis (186-89) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Elisabetta Penz (172-96) responded with 18 points and center Jeannette Guilavogui (185-97) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds. Savonese's coach Vito Pollari rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cagliari CUS maintains tenth place in A2 with 2-3 record. Loser Savonese still closes the standings with five games lost. Cagliari CUS will face higher ranked San Giovanni (#8) in Valdarno in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Savonese will play on the road against Orvieto (#15) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
