Regular Season Round 9: Toyama Grouses - Akita NH 90-75

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Toyama. Second ranked Toyama Grouses faced 4th placed Akita Happinets. Host Toyama Grouses (6-3) defeated guests from Akita (3-6) 90-75. Toyama Grouses shot 27 for 36 from the free-throw line, while Akita Happinets only scored nine points from the stripe. Toyama Grouses forced 26 Akita Happinets turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Akita Happinets were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) who scored 27 points. International forward Naoki Uto (188-91) chipped in 8 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) who recorded 26 points and 7 rebounds and forward Ryosuke Shirahama (190-91) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Toyama Grouses keep a position of league leader, which they share with Niigata Albirex. Newly promoted Akita Happinets dropped to the fifth place with six games lost. Toyama Grouses will face again Akita Happinets (#5) at home in the next round.
