Regular Season Round 4: Groningen - Rotterdam 90-59
Date: October 28, 2018
Bottom-ranked Rotterdam (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 90-59 loss to second ranked Groningen (4-1) in Groningen. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Groningen outrebounded Rotterdam 35-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American point guard Jordan Callahan (184-90, college: Tulane) who scored that evening 16 points and 5 rebounds and Rienk Mast (203-1) supported him with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Five Groningen players scored in double figures. Coach Erik Braal's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds by American forward Justin Gordon (198-93, college: Wofford) did not help to save the game for Rotterdam. The former international swingman Ties Theeuwkens (191-85, agency: Court Side) added 17 points for lost side. Defending champion maintains second position with 4-1 record behind leader Zwolle, which they share with Den Bosch. Rotterdam at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost. Groningen's next round opponent will be Den Helder (#8) on the road where they are favorite.
