Regular Season Round 6: Gipuzkoa - Gran Canaria 74-63

There was an upset in San Sebastian where higher ranked Gran Canaria (2-4) was defeated by bottom-ranked Gipuzkoa (1-5) 74-63 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Gipuzkoa. Gran Canaria was better in second period 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gipuzkoa looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Gran Canaria was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Point guard Daniel Perez (188-90) scored 9 points and 8 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Senegalese forward Mouhamed Barro (205-95) chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American Christopher Evans (203-91, college: Kent St.) with 15 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and American-Cameroonian DJ Strawberry (196-85, college: Maryland) scored 8 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gipuzkoa maintains eighteenth position with 1-5 record. Gran Canaria at the other side dropped to the eleventh place with four games lost. Gipuzkoa will face higher ranked Blusens Monbus (#12) in Santiago de Comp in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
