Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tokyo: Koshigaya A. (#1) and Tokyo Excel. (#2). Koshigaya A. (7-1) crushed visiting Tokyo Excel. (7-1) by 21 points 97-76. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Tokyo Excel.. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Koshigaya A. dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Tokyo Excel.'s 38 and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Tokyo Excel. 43-32 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The game was also dominated by American players. Josh Peppers (201-85, college: Cent.Florida) stepped up and scored 32 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Kyle Richardson (201-91, college: Portland St.) chipped in 22 points and 14 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Forward Jordan Faison (201-94, college: Cal Poly Pomona) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists and center Ryan Stephan (208-94, college: Colorado Mesa) scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Koshigaya A.. They maintain first place with 7-1 record, which they share with defeated Tokyo Excel. Koshigaya A. will meet at home Gifu Swoops (#5) in the next round. Tokyo Excel. will play against Kagoshima (#7) and hope to secure a win.
