Regular Season Round 10: Toyama Grouses - Akita NH 98-80

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Toyama Grouses as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Toyota Alvark) loss. Toyama Grouses defeated 5th ranked Akita Happinets at home 98-80. Toyama Grouses shot 67.3 percent from the field and made 26-of-33 charity shots (78.8 percent) during the game. Toyama Grouses had a 26-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. Akita Happinets were plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. American center Joshua Smith (208-92, college: Georgetown) had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Five Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. At the losing side American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) responded with 23 points and 6 steals and forward Ryosuke Shirahama (190-91) scored 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Akita Happinets lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the fourth place with seven games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Akita Happinets will play next round against strong Diamond Dolphins trying to get back on the winning streak. Toyama Grouses will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Aishin Sea Horses at Kariya.
