Regular Season Round 5: Botafogo F.R. - Paulistano 77-74

A very interesting game took place in Rio de Janeiro. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of higher ranked Paulistano (3-2) to tenth ranked Botafogo F.R. (2-2) 77-74 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Paulistano. Botafogo F.R. players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American point guard Jamaal Smith (175-85, college: N.Mexico) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists. Forward Arthur Bernardi (206-90, college: Houston Baptist) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Four Botafogo F.R. players scored in double figures. International Leonardo Meindl (201-93) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists and international point guard Georginho de-Paula (195-96) added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Paulistano. Paulistano's coach Regis Marrelli tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Botafogo F.R. moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Corinthians. Paulistano at the other side keeps the fifth position with two games lost. Botafogo F.R.'s next round opponent will be higher ranked Mogi (#5) in Mogi das Cruzes and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Paulistano will play on the road against Vasco Da G. in Rio de Janeiro and hope to win that game.
