Regular Season Round 7: Abejas - Libertadores 87-95

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Abejas (3-3) against sixth ranked Libertadores (3-5) on Wednesday night. Host Abejas were defeated by Libertadores in a tough game in Guanajuato 87-95. Libertadores outrebounded Abejas 41-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. Abejas were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Americans were the main players on the court. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Gerard DeVaughn (206-88, college: Stillman) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Reggie Larry (198-86, college: Boise St., agency: Pro Sports) accounted for 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. DeVaughn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Libertadores players scored in double figures. Libertadores' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Keith Appling (185-92, college: Michigan St.) came up with 23 points and guard Gary Ricks (185-91, college: Drake) added 9 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Abejas in the defeat. Libertadores moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Panteras. Abejas at the other side keep the third position with three games lost. They share it with Soles and Laguneros. Libertadores will play against higher ranked Soles (#4) in Mexicali in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Abejas will play on the road against the league's second-placed Aaguacateros in Michoacan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
