The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Pinheiros as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Pinheiros defeated 3rd ranked Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro 74-61. Pinheiros made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Flamengo helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American point guard Kenny Dawkins (175-87, college: Lamar) who scored 15 points and 7 assists. The other American import guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) chipped in 14 points and 5 assists. Four Pinheiros players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Argentinian point guard Franco Balbi (185-89) who recorded 18 points and 5 assists and Bahamas forward David Nesbitt (200-91, college: St.Thomas, FL) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Flamengo's coach Gustavo Conti rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Flamengo at the other side still keeps top place with one game lost. They share the position with Franca. Flamengo will play next round against Paschoalotto/Bauru trying to get back on the winning streak. Pinheiros will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Paulistano. It will be extra interesting game as Paulistano is their local rival from Rio de Janeiro.
