Not a big story in a game in Tianjin where 18th ranked Gold Lions (1-5) were edged by fourteenth ranked Blue Whales (3-3) 102-99 on Thursday. Blue Whales made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Gold Lions were plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American Jamaal Franklin (196-91, college: San Diego St., agency: Slash Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 46 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 11 assists and 5 steals. Guard Rongqi Huang (190-99) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Montenegrin point guard Taylor Rochestie (185-85, college: Washington St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 15 assists and guard DeShuai Shi (192-92) added 21 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Five Gold Lions players scored in double figures. Gold Lions' coach let to play ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Blue Whales moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Shandong GS and Shenzhen L. Loser Gold Lions dropped to the bottom position with five games lost. Blue Whales will face Golden Stars (#9) in Jinan in the next round. Gold Lions will play at home against Eagles (#19) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
