There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Valencia (2-3) smashed at home higher ranked Mann Filter (2-3) 89-62 on Thursday. Valencia dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Mann Filter's 30. They outrebounded Mann Filter 35-22 including 26 on the defensive glass. Valencia looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Mann Filter's players. Mali power forward Meiya Tirera (186-86, agency: ProDep Management) stepped up and scored 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and the former international power forward Maria Pina (187-87) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. Four Valencia players scored in double figures. Valencia's coach Ruben Burgos felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Brittany Brown (173-95, college: Florida St., agency: ProDep Management) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and Canadian center Quinn Urbaniak-Dornstauder (193-95, college: Arizona St.) scored 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
