Regular Season Round 5: Grindavik - Valur 90-88

Bottom-ranked Valur is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to tenth ranked Grindavik (2-3) 90-88 on Thursday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Valur won fourth quarter 27-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Grindavik looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American-Dominican guard Lewis Clinch (191-87, college: Georgia Tech) nailed 24 points and 7 assists for the winning side and the former international guard Olafur Olafsson (194-90) accounted for 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Grindavik players scored in double figures. Bulgarian forward Aleks Simeonov (200-93) came up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds and American point guard Kendall Anthony (173-93, college: Richmond) added 27 points and 10 assists respectively for Valur in the defeat. Valur's coach Agust Bjoergvinsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Grindavik moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Valur still closes the standings with five games lost. Grindavik will meet league's leader Tindastoll in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Valur will play against Stjarnan (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
