Regular Season Round 8: Saldus - RSU 47-60

Bottom-ranked Saldus is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their seventh consecutive match to second ranked RSU (7-1) 60-47 on Friday evening. The game was mostly controlled by RSU. Saldus was better in third quarter 16-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Saldus to just 6 points in first quarter and to 13 points in first half. RSU forced 23 Saldus turnovers. Guard Arta Fridenberga (178-95) orchestrated the victory by scoring 12 points and 5 rebounds. Center Guna Lagzdina (185-93) contributed with 3 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Forward Dagne Apsite (183-1) replied with 17 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and forward Anete Bluma (178-0) added 6 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Saldus. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. RSU have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-1 record having just five point less than leader Tallina U. Loser Saldus still closes the standings with seven games lost. RSU's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Riga TTT Kadetes.
