Regular Season Round 6: Sichuan - Liaoning 78-74

No shocking result in a game in Chengdu where ninth ranked Blue Whales (4-2) defeated 14th ranked Liaoning Hengye (1-5) 78-74. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Blue Whales dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Liaoning Hengye's 26 and made 17-of-17 charity shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Blue Whales forced 20 Liaoning Hengye turnovers. Belarusian center Yelena Leuchanka (196-83, college: W.Virginia) notched a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 18 rebounds and 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) to lead the effort and guard Fangzhu Gong (170-91) supported her with 11 points. Even 16 points by forward Dongxue Zhang (187-93) did not help to save the game for Liaoning Hengye. Guard TingTing Wang (175-91) added 13 points and 6 assists. Four Liaoning Hengye players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Blue Whales have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Liaoning Hengye at the other side keeps the fourteenth position with five games lost. Blue Whales' next round opponent will be Swordfish (#15) in Shanghai and are hoping to win another game. Liaoning Hengye will play at home against Flame and hope to win that game.
