Regular Season Round 6: Seagulls - Vilpas 91-94

Tenth-ranked Helsinki Seagulls (1-3) gave a tough game to first ranked Vilpas (7-1) on Saturday. The visitors from Salo managed to secure only three-point victory 94-91. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 28-15 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Vilpas made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Helsinki Seagulls helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international point guard Teemu Rannikko (189-80) scored 19 points and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Juho Nenonen (202-87, agency: Blacktop Management) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Vilpas' coach Joonas Iisalo used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was international Tuukka Kotti (205-81, college: Providence) with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists and Armenian-American guard Andre Spight (191-95, college: N.Colorado, agency: Pensack Sports) scored 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Vilpas and four Helsinki Seagulls players scored in double figures. Vilpas have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record. Helsinki Seagulls lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with three games lost. Vilpas are looking forward to face Kauhajoki (#4) at home in the next round. Helsinki Seagulls will play against Ura Basket (#9) in Kaarina and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
