Regular Season Round 8: Laguneros - Mineros 70-93

An interesting game for Mineros (8-1) which played road game in Torreon against 4th ranked Laguneros (3-4). First ranked Mineros had an easy win 93-70. The winners were led by the former international power forward Fernando Benitez (204-89) who scored that evening 15 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and American-Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (183-86, college: Kansas St.) supported him with 11 points and 4 assists. Five Mineros players scored in double figures. Even 15 points and 7 rebounds by American forward Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) did not help to save the game for Laguneros. Naturalized American swingman PJ Reyes (196-88, college: Charleston) added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mineros have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-1 record. Newly promoted Laguneros keep the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Abejas. Mineros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Laguneros will play again against the league's leader Mineros (#1) and hope to secure a win.
