Regular Season Round 7: Almeria - Martos 81-76

Everything went according to plan when sixth ranked Almeria (3-2) beat at home bottom-ranked Martos (0-5) 81-76 on Sunday. Almeria made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Martos turnovers. Martos was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for naturalized Lithuanian guard Povilas Bileisis (192-90) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 5 rebounds. American power forward Mike Middlebrooks (206-92, college: Adams St.) helped adding 13 points and 7 rebounds. Four Almeria players scored in double figures. Almeria's coach Jose Gonzalez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side David Melero (-91) responded with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals and Argentinian point guard Gaston Zalazar (-96) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Almeria. They moved-up to third place in Group D-A, which they share with 3 other teams. Martos lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with five games lost. Almeria will face Unicaja-Andalucia (#8) in Malaga in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Martos will play at home against Novaschool and hopes to get finally their first victory.
