The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Baskonia as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (FC Barcelona) loss. Baskonia smashed 8th ranked Valencia Basket in Vitoria 77-56. The game without a history. Baskonia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Valencia Basket's 28. Baskonia players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Brazilian-Italian point guard Marcelinho Huertas (191-83) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 assists. Argentinian guard Luca Vildoza (190-95) contributed with 13 points for the winners. American guard Matt Thomas (196-94, college: Iowa St.) answered with 16 points and Montenegrin power forward Bojan Dubljevic (205-91, agency: BeoBasket) added 7 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Valencia Basket. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Baskonia (6-1) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Valencia Basket at the other side keeps the eighth place with four games lost. They share the position with 5 other teams. Valencia Basket will play next round against La ICL Manresa trying to get back on the winning streak. Baskonia will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Andorra on the road.
