Regular Season Round 7: Innova Chef - Naron 90-87

There was no surprise in Zamora where bottom-ranked Naron (0-4) was edged by seventh ranked Innova Chef (3-1) 90-87 on Sunday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Innova Chef outrebounded Naron 35-24 including 20 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Innova Chef made 8 blocks. It was a great evening for Nigerian-American guard Rob Ukawuba (191-94, college: NJIT) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 6 rebounds. Senegalese center Alioune Senghor (200-96) helped adding 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws). At the losing side forward Ruben Rey (198-93) responded with 17 points and 4 assists and point guard Jorge Abelleira (180-97) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Naron's coach Jesus Varela rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Innova Chef. They moved-up to third place in Group A-B, which they share with 3 other teams. Naron lost their fourth game in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Innova Chef will face bottom-ranked Betanzos (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Naron will play against Un.Oviedo and hopes to get finally their first victory.
