Regular Season Round 5: Korikouvot - ToPo Juniorit 76-95

The biggest surprise of round 5 was guest ToPo Juniorit's (3-2) easy road victory over 6th ranked Korikouvot (2-3) 95-76 on Sunday evening. The game was mostly controlled by ToPo Juniorit. Korikouvot managed to win fourth quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. ToPo Juniorit dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Korikouvot's 28 and made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was swingman Juuso Kauppinen (188-94) who scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Gambian center Baboucarr Ceesay (197-94) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. ToPo Juniorit's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Teemu Knihtinen (194-98) produced 19 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Vili Nyman (198-98) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Five ToPo Juniorit and four Korikouvot players scored in double figures. ToPo Juniorit have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Oulun NMKY. Korikouvot lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. They share it with HNMKY and HBA-Marsky. ToPo Juniorit is looking forward to face higher ranked Kristika Turku (#3) in Turun in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Korikouvot will play on the road against Oulun NMKY (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
