Regular Season Round 4: UC Capitals - Sydney 84-79

Bottom-ranked Sydney Uni Flames (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 84-79 loss to second ranked Canberra Capitals (4-1) in Canberra on Sunday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Canberra Capitals made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Sydney Uni Flames turnovers. International forward Kelsey Griffin (188-87, college: Nebraska) fired a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. The former international power forward Lauren Scherf (196-96) chipped in 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international Belinda Snell (180-81) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 assists and international center Alexandra Bunton (198-93) added 13 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Canberra Capitals and four Sydney Uni Flames players scored in double figures. Sydney Uni Flames' coach tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Canberra Capitals keep a position of league leader, which they share with Perth. Loser Sydney Uni Flames still closes the standings with five games lost. Canberra Capitals will face league's leader Perth Lynx on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sydney Uni Flames will play against Bendigo Spirit (#3) and look forward to get finally their first victory.
