Regular Season Round 5: Nantes - Villeneuve 74-69

Nantes Reze has registered their first victory this season after four consecutive losses. The win is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (3-2) 74-69 on Sunday. They outrebounded Villeneuve D'Ascq 39-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. Nantes Reze looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Shaqwedia Wallace (175-89, college: Temple, agency: LBM Management) who scored 19 points and 7 assists. Forward Maud Medenou (189-90) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Naturalized Senegalese forward Mame-Marie Sy-Diop (185-85) produced 15 points and 6 rebounds and international guard Magali Mendy (178-90, agency: Octagon Europe) added 12 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Nantes Reze (1-4) left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with Flammes and Roche. Loser Villeneuve D'Ascq dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with Tarbes and Hainaut. Nantes Reze will meet at home higher ranked Bourges (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Villeneuve D'Ascq will play against Roche in La Roche and hope to secure a win.
