Regular Season Round 13: Hokkaido L. - Hitachi SR 72-91

There was a minor upset when 4th placed Hokkaido L. (4-9) was smashed by sixth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (3-10) in Saporro 91-72 on Wednesday. Hitachi Sunrockers dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Hokkaido L.'s 38 and made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. It was a very good performance for American Ryan Kelly (211-91, college: Duke) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals. Canadian center Robert Sacre (213-89, college: Gonzaga) contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. Guard Asahi Tajima (173-88) answered with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists and Canadian-Italian power forward Marc Trasolini (206-90, college: Santa Clara) added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Hokkaido L.Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hitachi Sunrockers moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Hokkaido L. keeps the fourth position with nine games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will face higher ranked Aishin Sea Horses (#3) in Kariya in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hokkaido L. will play on the road against the league's leader Niigata Albirex and hope to win that game.
