Regular Season Round 7: HyPo - Espoo Team 101-65

There was a change at the Korisliiga leadership position after last games. Round 7 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Espoo Team (6-2). They were crushed by second ranked HyPo (6-1) 101-65 on Wednesday night. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Espoo Team. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by HyPo. Espoo Team managed to win third quarter 30-29. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Espoo Team to just 7 points in second quarter. HyPo dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Espoo Team's 26 and made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. HyPo forced 23 Espoo Team turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when HyPo made 11 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard Randi Brown (170-96, college: New Orleans) who led her team to a victory scoring 31 points and 8 rebounds. The former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier) helped adding 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. HyPo's coach Miikka Sopanen felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side forward Lotta Vesiluoma (172-97) responded with 15 points and American forward Delaney Hodgins (184-96, college: E.Washington, agency: Interperformances) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. HyPo have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Espoo Team at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by HyPo. Espoo Team will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. HyPo will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Forssan Alku on the road.
