Regular Season Round 6: Valur - Stjarnan 97-92

Valur has finally registered their first victory this season after five consecutive losses. The win is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Stjarnan (4-2) 97-92. Stjarnan was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Valur shot 60.7 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. Valur players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a good game for American point guard Kendall Anthony (173-93, college: Richmond) who led his team to a victory with 34 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Bulgarian forward Aleks Simeonov (200-93) contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Five Valur players scored in double figures. American forward Paul Jones (198-89, college: W.Washington) replied with 31 points (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and the former international power forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82) added 15 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Stjarnan. Valur (1-5) left bottom position moving up to tenth place, which they share with Breidablik and Thor Thorl. Stjarnan at the other side keeps the fourth position with two games lost. Valur's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena IR.
