Worth to mention about the upset in a game between UU-Korihait (3-6) and Kouvot (3-4), which took place in Kouvola. 7th ranked UU-Korihait was outleveled in a road game by tenth ranked Kouvot 102-73 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Kouvot. UU-Korihait managed to win second period 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kouvot dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to UU-Korihait's 40. They outrebounded UU-Korihait 40-25 including 29 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American Brian Asbury (201-86, college: Miami, FL) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists and the former international Ville Kaunisto (204-82, agency: Court Side) supported him with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Five Kouvot players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds by American forward Stephon Jelks (198-96, college: Mercer) did not help to save the game for UU-Korihait. His fellow American import forward Brandon Conley (201-93, college: ORU) added 13 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kouvot moved-up to seventh place. Loser UU-Korihait dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. They share it with KTP Basket. Kouvot will meet at home higher ranked Lapuan Korikobrat (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. UU-Korihait will play against Tampereen Pyrinto and hope to secure a win.
