Rather predictable result in Rio de Janeiro where fifth ranked Botafogo F.R. (4-3) defeated 8th ranked Corinthians (4-4) 86-71 on Friday. Botafogo F.R. forced 19 Corinthians turnovers and outrebounded them 36-16 including a 26-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. Botafogo F.R. looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Jamaal Smith (175-85, college: N.Mexico) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and center Ralfi Ansaloni (211-87) who added 15 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Botafogo F.R. players scored in double figures. American-Peruvian point guard Kyle Fuller (185-92, college: Vanderbilt) responded with 21 points and 5 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) and the former international Guilherme Teichmann (206-83, college: Tulsa) scored 7 points. Corinthians' coach Bruno Savignani rotated eleven players and allowed the starting five to rest. Botafogo F.R. have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 4-3 record. Corinthians at the other side dropped to the sixth place with four games lost. Botafogo F.R. will face Brasilia (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Corinthians will play against Vasco Da G. (#12) in Rio de Janeiro and hope to win that game.
