Empoli's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after five consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Battipaglia (1-5) 57-56. American power forward Erin Mathias (193-95, college: Duke) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Czech center Klara Pochobradska (186-89, agency: SPORTlab Agency) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Kristen Simon (188-95, college: USC) with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Antiesha Brown (178-92, college: N.Mexico, agency: Two Points) scored 18 points and 8 rebounds. Empoli left bottom position moving up to tenth place, which they share with Battipaglia and Torino. It was Battipaglia's fourth loss in a row. Empoli will play against higher ranked Ragusa (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Battipaglia will play against the league's leader Venezia (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
