The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Flamengo as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Flamengo smashed 11th ranked Vasco Da G. in Rio de Janeiro 90-70. They outrebounded Vasco Da G. 40-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. Flamengo looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Olivinha Rodriguez (203-83) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) who added 15 points during the contest. Germerson Barbosa (202-93) responded with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Alexei Patricio (193-97) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Vasco Da G. lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth place with five games lost. Vasco Da G. will play next round against Corinthians trying to get back on the winning streak. Flamengo will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Sao Jose on the road.
