Regular Season Round 9: Shanxi - Jiangsu 77-84

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Flame (7-2) against fifth ranked Jiangsu Phoenix (7-2) on Saturday night. Host Flame was defeated by Jiangsu Phoenix in a tough game in Taiyuan 77-84. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Flame. Jiangsu Phoenix dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Flame's 36. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Flame's players. It was a good game for Canadian Natalie Achonwa (190-92, college: Notre Dame) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists. Jiayin Jiang (183-95) contributed with 21 points and 5 assists for the winners. Point guard Tongtong Wu (176) answered with 26 points and 9 assists and Wen Qi added 18 points and 12 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) in the effort for Flame. Four Flame players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Jiangsu Phoenix. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Beijing and Shanxi. Jiangsu Phoenix will play against Beijing Great Wall (#4) on the road in the next round. Flame will play against Red Wolves in Weinan and hopes to get back on the winning track.
