Regular Season Round 5: KTP - HNMKY 80-106
Date: November 10, 2018
The game between second ranked KTP (4-2) and eighth ranked HNMKY (2-3) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. KTP was crushed by HNMKY in Kotka 106-80. The game was mostly controlled by HNMKY. KTP managed to win fourth quarter 28-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to KTP's 50. They outrebounded KTP 51-34 including a 38-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Center Max Besselink (197-2) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) for the winners and guard Markus Kataja (188-0) chipped in 25 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). HNMKY's coach Timo Saukkola felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Eero Hannikainen (190-1) responded with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 11 rebounds and forward Joonas Bragge (183-1) scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four KTP players scored in double figures. HNMKY moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Sykki. KTP at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. HNMKY is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Lahti (#10) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. KTP will play against the league's leader Rocks (#1) in Helsinki and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
