Regular Season Round 9: Wuhan - Henan 63-87

Bottom-ranked Wuhan (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 87-63 loss to ninth ranked Henan Phoenix (5-4) in on Saturday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Wuhan's 38. They outrebounded Wuhan 42-28 including a 36-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Henan Phoenix looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American center Stefanie Dolson (196-92, college: Connecticut) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) for the winners and Yuxi Wei chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Henan Phoenix's coach Weijie Wang felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Huaqian Peng with 13 points and 7 rebounds and American power forward Amber Harris (195-88, college: Xavier) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Henan Phoenix. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Wuhan lost their ninth game in a row. Wuhan at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with nine games lost. Henan Phoenix will meet at home Dragons (#11) in the next round. Wuhan will play against Golden Bulls (#13) in Yiwu and hopes to get finally their first victory.
