Regular Season Round 9: Fujian - Xinjiang 59-89

There was no surprise in Putian where 16th ranked Fujian Nanan (2-7) was crushed by eighth ranked Magic Deer (5-4) 89-59 on Saturday. Magic Deer dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Fujian Nanan's 30. They outrebounded Fujian Nanan 50-34 including 18 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Magic Deer made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was American center Natasha Howard (190-91, college: Florida St., agency: LBM Management) who scored 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Center Tongyi Liu (192-95) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Four Magic Deer players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Alicia DeVaughn (193-91, college: Maryland, agency: ProDep Management) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and Yuhan Luo added 16 points respectively. Fujian Nanan's coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Magic Deer moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Fujian Nanan dropped to the fourteenth position with seven games lost. Magic Deer will face Blue Whales (#7) in Chengdu in the next round. Fujian Nanan will play on the road against the league's leader Vermilion Birds (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
