Regular Season Round 8: Unicaja - Breogan 78-72

Very expected game when 15th ranked Leche Rio Breogan (2-5) lost on the road to fourth ranked Unicaja Malaga (6-2) 78-72 on Sunday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Leche Rio Breogan won third quarter 20-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Unicaja Malaga made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Leche Rio Breogan outrebounded Unicaja Malaga 44-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. International point guard Jaime Fernandez (186-93) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 7 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Georgian center Giorgi Shermadini (217-89) contributed with 9 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Ukrainian power forward Volodymyr Herun (208-94, college: Portland) replied with 16 points and 9 rebounds and Serbian point guard Aleksandar Cvetkovic (188-93, agency: BeoBasket) added 15 points and 5 assists in the effort for Leche Rio Breogan. Four Leche Rio Breogan players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Unicaja Malaga moved-up to third place, which they share with Baskonia. Newly promoted Leche Rio Breogan dropped to the fourteenth position with five games lost. Unicaja Malaga will face Andorra (#9) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Leche Rio Breogan will play against Zaragoza (#8) and hope to win that game.
