Regular Season Round 8: Stjarnan - Keflavik 74-77

The biggest surprise of round 8 was guest Keflavik's (6-2) road victory over second-ranked Stjarnan (5-3) 77-74 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Stjarnan. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-12. But Stjarnan won second period 25-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Keflavik won last quarter 20-18. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Brittanny Dinkins (170-94, college: S.Mississippi) who had a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. International center Salbjorg Saevarsdottir (185-91) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Keflavik's coach Jon Gudmundsson used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Danielle Rodriguez (178-93, college: Utah) produced a double-double by scoring 32 points, 8 rebounds, 12 assists and 6 steals and international center Ragnheidur Benonisdottir (185-94) added 6 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Keflavik have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with KR. Stjarnan at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Keflavik is looking forward to face league's leader Snaefell in Stykkisholmur in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Stjarnan will play at home against KR and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
