Regular Season Round 5: Brunell - Fr.Mathews 70-72

The most exciting game of round 5 in the Super League took place in Cork. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 7th ranked Brunell (1-3) to sixth ranked Fr.Mathews (3-2) 72-70 on Sunday evening. The former international forward Grainne Dwyer (182-84) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals for the winners and the former international guard Niamh Dwyer (176-82, college: Monmouth) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Fr.Mathews' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Latvian forward Linda Rubene (189-91, college: Indiana) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 15 rebounds and American swingman Madelyn Ganser (180, college: Holy Cross) scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Four Brunell players scored in double figures. Fr.Mathews moved-up to third place, which they share with Killester and WIT Wildcats. Brunell lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. Fr.Mathews is looking forward to face 11890 Killester (#3) in Dublin in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Brunell will play on the road against WIT Wildcats (#5) in Waterford and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
