Regular Season Round 8: Mondragon - Goierri 92-66

Very expected game when 11th ranked Goierri (1-4) was rolled over on the road by fifth ranked Mondragon (4-1) 92-66 on Sunday. Mondragon made 26-of-31 free shots (83.9 percent) during the game, while Goierri only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Goierri 44-26 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was point guard Dani Lorenzo (181-93) who scored 23 points and 7 rebounds. American center Zach Kirschbaum (208-93, college: Trinity Intern.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Five Mondragon players scored in double figures. Guard Aitor De-Miguel (186-83) produced 16 points and 5 rebounds and Inigo Lasa (192-98) added 14 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mondragon have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place in Group A-A, which they share with Miraflores and Ardoi. Goierri lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the twelfth position with four games lost. Mondragon will face Santurtzi (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Goierri will play against Ardoi (#3) and hope to win that game.
