Regular Season Round 8: Fuenlabrada - Real Madrid 80-95
Date: November 11, 2018
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Madrid: Real Madrid (#3) and Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#9). Baloncesto Fuenlabrada was defeated at home 80-95 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Real Madrid. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada was better in second period 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Real Madrid made 23-of-24 free shots (95.8 percent) during the game. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. International point guard Sergio Llull (190-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points. Naturalized Cape Verdean center Edy Tavares (220-92) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Croatian point guard Marko Popovic (185-82, college: S.Idaho JC, agency: Alti Sport) replied with 16 points and the former international point guard Tomas Bellas (185-87) added 12 points in the effort for Baloncesto Fuenlabrada. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion (7-1) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with FC Barcelona. Loser Baloncesto Fuenlabrada dropped to the eleventh place with five games lost. Real Madrid will face bottom-ranked Gipuzkoa (#18) in San Sebastian in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada will play on the road against Joventut (#6) in Badalona and hope to win that game.
