Regular Season Round 8: Ponferrada CDP - Culleredo 88-89

Undefeated Ponferrada CDP (4-1) recorded its first loss at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by fifth ranked Culleredo (4-1) 89-88. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Ponferrada CDP. Culleredo made 29-of-37 free shots (78.4 percent) during the game. Strangely Ponferrada CDP outrebounded Culleredo 42-27 including 16 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of center Mario Cabanas (207-85) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and American forward Trevin Woods (198, college: Arkansas Tech) who added 18 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. Canadian swingman Taevaunn Prince (191-91, college: Missouri So.) responded with 23 points and American Sean Mcdonell scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ponferrada CDP's coach Luis Daniel Enriquez tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Culleredo moved-up to second place in Group A-B, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Ponferrada CDP. Culleredo will meet at home Chantada (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Ponferrada CDP will play against the league's leader Estudiantes L. (#1) in Lugo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
