Regular Season Round 7: Baskonia - Azpeitia ISB 66-74

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Azpeitia ISB and 9th ranked Baskonia B had identical 3-3 record. But Baskonia B was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Azpeitia 74-66 on Sunday night. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Azpeitia ISB made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard Jahvaughn Powell (183-96, college: Nicholls St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points. Naturalized Ukrainian center Volodymyr Orlov (208-95) helped adding 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). At the losing side Bahamas forward Tavario Miller (203-94, college: Texas A&M) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and swingman Ivan Martinez (192-90) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Azpeitia ISB (4-3) moved-up to fifth place in Silver. Loser Baskonia B keeps the ninth position with four games lost. Azpeitia ISB will face higher ranked Marin (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Baskonia B will play against Estela (#7) in Santander and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
