Regular Season Round 3: Sporting - Eleutheria M. 56-62

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Eleutheria M. (#5) and Sporting (#12). Despite it looked like an easy game for Eleutheria M., those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Host Sporting challenged much higher ranked Eleutheria M. giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by six points 62-56. Sporting was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American center Cassie Rochel (194-91, college: Wisconsin) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 20 rebounds and 4 blocks. Maria Mikhou (183-83) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Eleutheria M.'s coach Sotiris Tsarapatsanis used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Bahrain power forward Brittany Lewis (188-89, college: Louisiana Tech) who recorded 21 points and 5 rebounds and American forward Tashia Brown (186-96, college: W.Kentucky) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Eleutheria M. will face Esperides (#8) in Glyfada in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Sporting's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Athinaikos.
