Regular Season Round 6: GOCOR-Sozh - Brest 74-71

The most exciting game of round 6 in the Premier League took place in Gomel. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of higher ranked Brest (3-3) to eighth ranked GOCOR-Sozh (2-4) 74-71 on Wednesday evening. Brest trailed by 12 points at halftime and as many as 14 after three quarters before a 27-16 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 71-74 at the end of the game. GOCOR-Sozh forced 19 Brest turnovers. Strangely Brest outrebounded GOCOR-Sozh 56-39 including 18 on the offensive glass. It was a good game for guard Timofey Verevkin (185-93) who led his team to a victory with 25 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Denis Yarets (188-89) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Four GOCOR-Sozh players scored in double figures. Guard Anton Shchurko (188-97) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds and power forward Kirill Vinokurov (207-99) added 21 points and 18 rebounds in the effort for Brest. Brest's coach Alexandr Fedorchyk rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. GOCOR-Sozh moved-up to seventh place. Brest at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. GOCOR-Sozh are looking forward to face Impuls BGUIR (#8) in Minsk in the next round. Brest will play at home against Rubon (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
