Regular Season Round 9: Paulistano - Flamengo 97-84

Top ranked Flamengo (8-3) recorded its third loss in Sao Paulo on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Paulistano (6-2) 97-84. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Flamengo. Paulistano made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 56.7 percentage. The best player for the winners was international Leonardo Meindl (201-93) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. International point guard Yago Santos (178-99) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Paulistano players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Olivinha Rodriguez (203-83) who recorded 28 points and Argentinian point guard Franco Balbi (185-89) added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Paulistano have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Flamengo at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Paulistano's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Sao Paulo to the arena Vivo/Franca.
