There was a small surprise when seventeenth ranked Cholet Basket (2-8) defeated on the road 14th ranked Le Portel (4-6) 92-84 on Friday. Cholet Basket shot 22 for 30 from the free-throw line, while Le Portel only scored six points from the stripe. American forward Michael Young (206-94, college: Pittsburgh) scored 30 points to lead the charge for the winners and the former international swingman Pape Sy (198-88, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side guard Benoit Mangin (188-88) responded with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists and American swingman Anthony Hilliard (195-86, college: Elizabeth City) scored 15 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cholet Basket moved-up to sixteenth place, which they share with Fos-Provence. Le Portel lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with six games lost. Cholet Basket will face bottom-ranked Olympique Antibes (#18) at home in the next round.
