Regular Season Round 6: Breakers - United 101-108

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Auckland. Second ranked United faced 4th ranked New Zealand Breakers. Guests from Melbourne (8-3) defeated host New Zealand Breakers (4-5) 108-101. The guests trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 57-43 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. United made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when United made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward Josh Boone (208-84, college: Connecticut) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. The other American import point guard Casper Ware (178-90, college: Long Beach St.) chipped in 24 points and 5 assists. United's coach Dean Vickerman used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was New Zealand guard Corey Webster (188-88, college: Lambuth) who recorded 31 points and 8 assists and American-Fijian forward Tai Wesley (201-86, college: Utah St.) added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Five United and four New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. United have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 8-3 record having just two point less than leader Wildcats. New Zealand Breakers at the other side keep the fourth place with five games lost. United are looking forward to face Kings (#3) in Sydney in the next round, which may be the game of the day. New Zealand Breakers will play on the road against the league's leader Perth Wildcats and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
