Regular Season Round 6: Ippokratis - Kastoria 72-79

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 9th ranked Ippokratis (3-3) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Kastoria (3-3) 79-72 on Saturday. Kastoria outrebounded Ippokratis 38-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Point guard Thomas Amparas (190-94) scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and swingman Giannis Vavatsikos (201-90) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Kastoria players scored in double figures. Kastoria's coach Nikos Karagiannis used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The best for the losing side was forward Antonis Asimakopoulos (203-76) with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and Estonian point guard Rait-Riivo Laane (179-93) scored 24 points. Kastoria moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Ippokratis. Kastoria will meet at home higher ranked Diagoras D. (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ippokratis will play against Evropi in Pefkohori and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
