Regular Season Round 9: Lanzarote - Daimiel 83-67

Date: November 17, 2018
No shocking result in a game when fourteenth ranked Lanzarote (3-6) beat 16th ranked Daimiel (1-8) in Arrecife 83-67 on Saturday. They outrebounded Daimiel 42-19 including a 34-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American forward Aziz Leeks (203-95, college: Idaho Coll.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Guard Acoydan McCarthy (197-99, college: Austin Peay St.) contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Leeks is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Lanzarote players scored in double figures. American forward Julian Lewis (196-92, college: Lewis) answered with 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and point guard Sergio Hervas (184-92) added 6 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Daimiel. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Lanzarote moved-up to eleventh place in Group B, which they share with Casvi and Aridane. Daimiel lost their sixth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the sixteenth position with eight games lost. Lanzarote will face higher ranked Gran Canaria II (#3) in Las Palmas in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Daimiel will play at home against the league's second-placed Real Madrid II (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
