Regular Season Round 9: Naron - Betanzos 72-77

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Betanzos and 11th ranked Naron had identical 1-4 record. But Naron was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Betanzos 77-72 on Saturday night. It was a good game for Senegalese power forward Abdou Thiam (204-98) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds. Center Marcos Rozas (202-83) contributed with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Betanzos players scored in double figures. Betanzos' coach Ivan Villaverde used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Michael Scarlett (193-95, college: Claremont-Mudd) answered with 26 points and Bahamas forward Winslo Barry (208-90, college: Incarnate Word) added 15 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Naron. Betanzos (2-4) moved-up to ninth place in Group A-B, which they share with Carbajosa. Loser Naron keeps the eleventh position with five games lost. Betanzos will face Un.Oviedo (#14) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Naron will play against Carbajosa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
